Capacitor Voltage Balancing for Five-Level Neutral-Point Clamped Inverter using Modified Carrier Waves for Carrier-Based PWM Technique
2019 IEEE 16th India Council International Conference (INDICON)

Multilevel inverter (MLI) are now mostly preferred topology for high-power medium-voltage induction motor drives. From various available topology of multi-level inverter neutral-point clamped (NPC) is widely preferred due to its simplicity and inherent advantages. NPC mainly have a problem of fluctuating neutral-point potential (NPP), which leads to severe problem like increase in total harmonics distortion (THD) and increase in voltage stress of the power semiconductor switches. This paper focused towards the capacitor voltage balancing in five-level NPC with use of phase-disposed pulse width modulation technique (PD-PWM). An analysis of effects of various offset in carrier waves on capacitor voltages is analyzed, by use of band detector close-loop control is done and based on band detection various offset value is added in carrier waves to reduce the discrepancy in capacitor voltages.

Harmonic Current Signal Injection based Grid Impedance Measurement Technique for Active Harmonic Filter
Lecture Note, Springer Singapore

At present, the main issue faced in practical application of active harmonic filter with LCL filter is the protection of AHF due to the resonance condition which is attained unintentionally in the process of removing harmonic and improving power quality. At resonance condition, voltage or current magnification takes place which results in failure of components connected in active harmonic filters. In addition to this, voltage fluctuation occurs for parallel-connected appliances, which results in poor power quality and makes system less reliable. In this work, a noninvasive signal injection method known as harmonic current signal injection method is implemented. The method determines grid impedance in order to avoid resonance conditions in the AHF application. The method uses the existing setup of AHF for measurement of impedance of the grid, thus eliminating the need of additional hardware for determination of impedance. This method is simulated in PSIM and validated under different values of grid impedance.

Implementation and Fabrication of Power Factor Corrector Using DC-DC Converte
2017 International Conference on Energy, Communication, Data Analytics and Soft Computing (ICECDS)

The increasing growth in the use of electronic equipment in recent years leads to wide use of DC-DC converter. For feeding DC load, regulated DC power is obtained from switch mode DC-DC converter. Normally in AC-DC conversion current drawn from the input ac supply is in form of narrow pulses. This narrow pulse current of high peak results in power quality issues, which include higher value of THD in supply current, lower value of power factor. The Single ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) is a dc/dc -converter topology that provides positive regulated output voltage from an input voltage that varies from above to below the output voltage. To improve source side power factor, DC-DC converter with power factor correction algorithm implemented.

Active and Reactive Power Control of Grid Connected Distributed Generation System
2017 Second International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Communication Technologies (ICECCT)

This paper presents work related to management of active and reactive power exchange between a distributed generation (DG) source and the grid to which it is connected; for improved utilization of electricity generated by the DG source such as solar energy. This is based on the recently introduced Availability Based Tariff (ABT) concept for the consumer loads, where conventional power grid is available. In situations, when, the grid power is available at high cost during high electrical tariff, the locally generated power from solar is utilized for consumer loads or even excess power can be fed back to the grid in order to earn financial benefits. On the other hand, during low electrical tariff, power generated is utilized for consumer loads or to charge batteries. Such system can also be utilized as Ancillary services for reactive power compensation, voltage control, loss compensation, energy imbalance etc.
